About AIS ______________________________________________________________________ 1. Introduction Applied Information Systems is pleased to bring XessLite to your Linux desktop. XessLite is a full-featured subset of AIS's Xess spreadsheet technology, oriented toward personal use. This document contains important information about XessLite. 2. License and Registration XessLite for Linux is distributed as Shareware. This means several things: o XessLite is not free (gratis, kostenlos, etc.). You may use it for an evaluation period, and after that you need to pay a registration fee if you decide to continue using it. However, o XessLite is freely distributable. You may make copies of it and distribute it as long as you only distribute the whole, intact package you received it in, and as long as you do not distribute it as part of another system. Please read the LICENSE.txt and REGISTERING.txt files that come with the XessLite package for more information. You can use the REGISTER- ME.xs4 example spreadsheet to send in your registration. 3. Documentation XessLite comes with complete online documentation in the form of a help file. You may view the documentation using XessLite's builtin help viewer (using the Help->Index... menu item), or using any HTML browser (such as Netscape Navigator or Communicator). A Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) list and other information about XessLite and the full-featured Xess spreadsheet are available from AIS's website . 4. Example Spreadsheets A number of example spreadsheets come with the XessLite package in the examples/ directory. You are free to modify these files to suit your needs. 5. Configuration XessLite is configured using X resources (see the X(3) man page for more information about X resources). The default resources for XessLite are found in the Xslite4 app-defaults file, usually installed in the /usr/X11R6/lib/app-defaults/ directory. If you wish to modify the default resources, we recommend copying this file to your home directory and modifying it there instead of modifying the system-wide app-defaults file. 6. Recent Changes Changes in XessLite-4.0.6c: o Fixed various problems with pressing [Escape] or clicking the cancel button on the edit line caused crashes under some circumstances. o Optimized cell exporting. Previously, if a large part of an empty sheet was selected for export (any of text, CSV, TSV, HTML, or LaTeX), Xess would go into a very long loop searching the empty sheet for cells to export. o Fixed problem where, if an error occurred during the writing of many types of export files, Xess would issue an error message and terminate the operation without closing the file, resulting in open file handles that were never closed. o Fixed problem where the Excel filter was unable to load an Excel workbook that contains large numbers of cell styles. o Printing to ledger-size paper would not work correctly under some circumstances; fixed. o Fixed various minor user-interface bugs. Changes in XessLite-4.0.6: o Pages sizes and PostScript: Several common paper sizes (letter, legal, ledger, a3, a4, and a5) now get set properly when printing from XessLite in PostScript mode. Prior versions of XessLite simply `expected' that the printer had the proper size paper loaded in the default paper tray. If you experience problems (such as printer errors) when printing one of these paper sizes, please contact AIS Tech Support at . o Printing bugs fixed: Several bugs printing graphs embedded in spreadsheets have been discovered and fixed. 7. Differences Between XessLite and Regular Xess XessLite is a full-featured subset of the Xess spreadsheet. The differences between XessLite and the `full' version of Xess are as follows: o Reduced row, column, and sheet limits. XessLite supports fewer rows, columns, and worksheets than regular Xess: +-----------+------------+-------------+ | | XessLite | Xess | +-----------+------------+-------------+ | Rows | 16,383 | 9,999,999 | +-----------+------------+-------------+ | Columns | 1,024 | 4,096 | +-----------+------------+-------------+ | Sheets | 3 | 4,095 | +-----------+------------+-------------+ o No extension facility. XessLite lacks support for both the C-based Connections API and the new xsBasic extension language. o Does not support advanced financial functions. XessLite lacks support for the following advanced financial functions supported by Xess: @ACCRINT - accrued interest for a security with periodic interest @ACCRINTM - accrued interest for a security with interest at maturity @COUPDAYBS - days between beginning of coupon period and settlement date @COUPDAYS - days in coupon period that settlement date is in @COUPDAYSNC - days between settlement date and next coupon date @COUPNCD - next coupon date after settlement date @COUPNUM - num of coupon payments between settlement date and maturity @COUPPCD - most recent coupon date before settlement date @CUMIPMT - cumulative interest paid between start and end of a loan @CUMPRINC - cumulative principal paid between start and end of a loan @DB - fixed-declining real depreciation of an asset @DISC - discount rate of a security @DOLLARDE - convert a dollar fraction to dollar decimal @DOLLARFR - convert a dollar decimal to dollar fraction @DURATION - Macauley duration for an assumed par value of $100 @EFFECT - effective annual interest rate @FVSCHEDULE - future value of initial principal @INTRATE - interest rate for a fully invested investment @IPMT - interest payment for a specified period @MDURATION - modified Macauley duration for an assumed face value of $100 @MIRR - modified internal return rate for periodic cash flows @NOMINAL - nominal annual interest rate @ODDFPRICE - price of a security with odd first period @ODDFYIELD - yield of a security with odd first period @ODDLPRICE - price of a security with odd last period @ODDLYIELD - yield of a security with odd last period @PPMT - principal payment for a specified period @PRICE - price of a security with periodic interest @PRICEDISC - price of a discounted security @PRICEMAT - price of a security that pays interest at maturity @RECEIVED - value at maturity of a fully invested security @TBILLEQ - bond-yield equivalent for a treasury bill equivalent to a bond @TBILLPRICE - price for a treasury bill @TBILLYIELD - yield on a treasury bill @VDB - depreciation of an asset using fixed-declining balance @XIRR - internal rate of return for a series of cash flows @XNPV - net present value for a series of cash flows @YIELD - yield at maturity of a security with periodic interest @YIELDDISC - annual yield for a discounted security @YIELDMAT - annual yield for a security that pays interest at maturity For more information about the Xess spreadsheet please consult AIS's website 8.
