cdrkit - portable command-line CD/DVD recorder software

This is a little web page for the cdrkit project. If you want to see more here - feel free to join and help. cdrkit is a suite of programs for recording CDs and DVDs, blanking CD-RW media, creating ISO-9660 filesystem images, extracting audio CD data, and more. The programs included in the cdrkit package were originally derived from several sources, most notably mkisofs by Eric Youngdale and others, cdda2wav by Heiko Eissfeldt, and cdrecord by Jörg Schilling. However, cdrkit is not affiliated with any of these authors; it is now an independent project.

cdrkit, like the programs from which it was derived, is distributed as free software under the terms of the GNU GPL version 2. (Note, this is not "version 2 or later" as you see in many software projects.)

Compatibility

Derived from the various programs distributed in the cdrtools suite, cdrkit aims to maintain interface compatibility with those tools. The cdrecord program has been renamed to wodim ("write optical disk media") so that users will not confuse it with the original cdrecord, which is still maintained by its author, Jörg Schilling. wodim, and the other programs distributed with cdrkit, will retain a user interface compatible with the corresponding programs from the cdrtools 2.01.01a08 release, at least for the near future. Thus, front-end programs, such as GUI-based CD writer applications, should be able to use cdrkit merely by substituting the name "wodim" for the name "cdrecord".

Development

cdrkit development is coordinated on the alioth.debian.org hosting service. Releases are currently posted to http://cdrkit.org/releases/. To join our development team, please subscribe to the debburn-devel list and download our source code tree using a Subversion client:

    svn co svn://svn.debian.org/debburn/cdrkit/trunk cdrkit-svn
Read the TODO file at the top of that tree for some ideas of things to work on. Submit patches by email to the development list. Regular patch contributors will be considered for direct repository commit access.

If you would like to receive email updates whenever code is committed to our repository, join the debburn-changes list. If you just like to browse trough the repository, use the web frontend.

We also maintain an IRC channel, #cdrkit on irc.oftc.net. If you like to use IRC in a software development context, please stop by.

Developers

Many thanks go to the SuSE maintainers, Mandriva maintainers and all people helping with testing and providing patches and other worthy contributions.

Bugs

Bugs shall be reported via E-mail. The general contact address is the mailing list.
