P L E A S E R U N (S E T U P) W H E N Y O U B O O T CD. _______________________________________________________________________________ (a) If you'd like to install aL i n u x to a true Linux Native partition, please choose [Parted_MAgic], which can split and/or setup your Linux partition(s) and swap if needed with ease using an existing DOS Win partition. If you already have a Linux Native 83 partition with an EXT2, EXT3 or ReiserFS on it, you can go-on reading below. Regardless, even if you have a 83 type partition and would like it switched to EXT3 or ReiserFS, simply go-on reading below as the 'aLinux' install will guide you into the newer EXT3 or traditional EXT2 with no harm to existing partition(s). If you do not know your exact partition info. scroll down to the bottom of this file your reading now and issue one of the 4 commands which will show how your partitions are situated. _______________________________________________________________________________ 1.) CDROM to EXT2, EXT3 install --------------------------------------------------------------------------- TIP: EXT3 is the safest file system in Kernel 2.6.x Enable the boot option in bios to boot from [CDROM] device first, or hit the [F8], [F11], or [DEL] key or refer to motherboard computer manual. _______________________________________________________________________________ Type these command(s) if your not sure about partitions, etc.: (Exit 'setup') # cat /proc/partitions # dmesg | less # fdisk -l # parted /dev/xxx print _______________________________________________________________________________ 2.) After the install and only if you hadn't installed LILO - you can boot into aLinux using the same installation cd. On the first screen you can type 'vmlinuz root=/dev/xxxx' where 'xxxx' is the partition you installed aLinux too - might be /dev/hda1, /dev/hda2, /dev/sda2. So if it was say /dev/hda2 you would enter 'vmlinuz root=/dev/hda2' without the ''. Enjoy!.
