If you grab a pre-compiled binary you may also wish to pick up a copy of the "lynx.cfg", "mailcap", and "mime.types" files. These files provide system wide configuration of Lynx. Make sure you use "binary" mode when downloading the executables. Use "lynx.cfg" and "lynx.man" from the same directory you download your binary from as these files differ between versions. On UNIX systems after you have got a Lynx Executable use: "uncompress [Name of the Executable]" and then: "chmod 755 [Name of the Executable]" to make it runnable The UNIX executables here have been compiled with debugging information. If you wish a smaller binary, run the UNIX utility 'strip' on the uncompressed executable. ("strip EXECUTABLE_NAME") -------------------------------------------------------------------------- LYNX HELP FILES The help files for lynx2-3-7 are available with the pre-compiled versions. They are also packaged with the source files. We encourage you to install these on your own system so that we can reduce the number of hits on our overworked server. After installing them on your own file system, you can change the lynx.cfg to point to those instead of to KU. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Craig Lavender (2/24/95) lynx-help@ukanaix.cc.ukans.edu lynx-bug@ukanaix.cc.ukans.edu
